Current activities within Goal One, Public Awareness, include:
Adults and Children Together Against Violence (ACT) is a violence prevention project that focuses on adults who raise, care for and teach young children ages 0-8 years. It is designed to prevent violence by helping these adults to be positive role models and learn the skills to teach young children non-violent ways to resolve conflicts, deal with frustration and handle anger.
Created in 1999 by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the ACT project includes a national media campaign and training for community professionals through ACT Community Coordinators in sites around the country.
ACT Focuses on FOUR MODULES:
Anger management
Positive Discipline vs. Punishment
Social Problem Solving (Conflict Resolution)
Media Violence
Parents Raising Safe Kids is an 8-week parenting seminar, which provides alternatives to violence. To learn more, click here. Please note that registration for the English class has closed, but there is still opening for the Spanish class.
